Setup

Stand tall with your feet together and your arms by your sides.

Step by step

  1. Step one foot out to the side.
  2. Sweep both arms overhead.
  3. Alternate sides, no jumping.

Cole's tip

All the arm sweep of a jumping jack with one foot always on the floor. Reach all the way overhead to earn every rep.

Common mistakes

  • Locking the knees.
  • Arms only half-way up.
  • Holding your breath.

Make it easier or harder

Easier option

Arms to shoulder height only.

Harder option

Faster pace with a small knee bend each step.

 Safety

  • Only try full jumping jacks if your joints feel good; the programs never require jumping.
  • Stop if you feel sharp or joint pain, numbness or tingling, chest pain, dizziness or unusual breathlessness. Effort and muscle burn are normal; pain is not.

If you have an injury or medical condition, check with your doctor before trying a new exercise. This guide is general education, not medical advice.
